This article shows you how to add volunteer shifts, share a signup link, and add events and important dates to your calendar.

Plan: Sprout, Grow and Thrive.

Before you start

  • Volunteering and Calendar & events are on in Settings → Tools.

Add volunteer shifts

  1. Go to Volunteering and click Add shifts.
  2. Type a Shift name and pick a type.
  3. Choose Ongoing, Single date or Recurring, then set the Date, Start, End and Location. A recurring schedule creates several shifts at once.
  4. Link it to a Semester (optional) or Class (optional).
  5. Set Slots needed (1 to 50) and a Signup deadline, add instructions, and click Create.
  1. On the Shifts tab, click Share Link on a shift.
  2. Click Copy and send it. Anyone with this link can sign up without a LearningSense account.

Add an event or important date

  1. Go to Calendar & events and click New event.
  2. Fill in Name, Date and Kind (General, Field trip or Parent meeting). Add Starts, Ends, Limit, RSVP by, Where and Details if you like. Click Add event.
  3. For a deadline or a day off, click Add important date, pick a kind such as Registration opens or No class, and click Add date.

What happens next

  • Families sign up on their Volunteering page. The Families tab shows who is helping and who hasn't signed up yet.
  • Everyone signed up, including guests from the link, gets a reminder email about 24 hours before the shift.
  • Families see events on their calendar and answer Going, Maybe or Can't make it. Maybe never counts toward the limit.
  • Click an event and choose See who's going to see RSVPs.

Common problems

  • Need to stop new signups? Click Close on the shift.
  • Want the same shift again? Click Duplicate.
  • Someone can't sign up themselves? Click Assign a family on the shift.
  • Families can't change an RSVP? RSVPs close after the RSVP by date, and answers can't be changed after that.
  • Calendar, events and volunteering
  • Turn tools on and off, and what each plan includes
  • Announcements and messages
