Teach a class as a parent

This article helps you teach a class at your co-op while keeping one login for your family and your teaching.

Before you start

  • Your director invites you to teach a class. Use the same email as your family account.
  • Open the teacher invitation email and accept it. If you are already signed in, you are linked to the class right away and see You're linked to the class!

Find your teaching pages

You keep the family menu. A Teaching group appears under My family with:

  • My classes: the classes you teach. Click one to open its page.
  • Take attendance: mark today's class.
  • Assignments to grade: work waiting for you (only if your co-op uses assignments and grades).
  • Students: the children in your classes.

On a phone, find these under More.

Steps

  1. Go to My classes and open your class.
  2. Click the Roster tab to see who is enrolled. Children with health notes their family shared are marked Health.
  3. Click Take attendance, mark each child Present, Absent or Excused, then click Complete attendance.
  4. Use Message my class, New announcement and the Materials tab to keep families in the loop.
  5. Can't teach on a class day? Click I can't make it, pick the date, check Need a sub? if you need one, and click Send to director. Your director gets it in Messages.

What happens next

Your teaching pages and your family pages stay separate. Families of your students see what you post on the class page. If your director turned on attendance emails, families get an email when you mark their child absent or excused.

Common problems

  • No Teaching group? You haven't accepted the invite yet, or your director hasn't linked you to a class. Ask them.
  • The invite asks you to create a new account? Sign in with your family email first, then open the invite link again.
  • Can't see a child's allergies? Each family chooses what teachers see. Your director sees everything.
  • Can't see a parent's phone number? Your director chooses whether teachers see parent email and phone.
  • Take attendance
  • Message families and share class materials
  • What you can see about children, and why
