The family directory: who sees you, and hiding your family

This article helps you choose how your family appears in your co-op's family directory, or leave it out.

Before you start

  • Your co-op must use the family directory. If Directory isn't in your menu, your co-op doesn't use it.
  • You must be the main parent to change these choices.

What other families see

  • Your family's name.
  • Your children's first names, only if you choose to show them. They are hidden unless you turn this on.
  • Never your address, email or phone number, and never your children's grades.

Until you make a choice, your family is listed by name only, with no children shown.

Steps

  1. Go to Settings → Directory listing (under Privacy & account).
  2. To hide your family completely, uncheck Include our family in the directory.
  3. To show your children, check Show our children's first names to other families. (This only works while your family is included.)
  4. Click Save choices. You see Directory choices saved.

The first time, Today may ask How your family shows in the directory. Choose there and click Save my choice; you can change it anytime in Settings.

What happens next

The Directory page updates for every family right away. Other families can browse it and use Search families by name. Your choice here does not change what your children's teachers and your director see. They always see your children, whatever you choose.

Common problems

  • The children box is greyed out? Check Include our family in the directory first, or add a child.
  • Settings says your co-op doesn't use the directory? The tool is off. Nothing about your family is shown.
  • Want to reach a family? Use Messages. The directory never shows contact details.
  • How your family's and children's data is protected
  • Your account: contact info, emails and deleting your account
  • Messages and announcements
