This article shows you how to take attendance for a class, print name tags or ID cards, and see instructional hours per student.
Plan: Attendance and name tags on all plans. Instructional hours: Thrive.
Before you start
- The class has students enrolled in a semester (or session) with start and end dates.
Take attendance
- Go to Classes, open the class, and click Take attendance.
- Pick the date with the arrows or the date picker.
- Mark each child Present, Absent or Excused. Click a mark again to clear it. Use Add note for things like leaving early.
- Click Complete attendance when every child has a mark, or Save draft to finish later.
Print name tags or ID cards
- Go to Classes and click Name tags & IDs.
- Choose Name tags (Avery 5395, 8 per sheet) or ID cards (Avery 5371, 10 per sheet).
- Pick a term and a class, or Every child this term. For name tags you can add Parent phone or Allergies; both are off by default.
- Click Print. In the print dialog, set margins to None and scale to 100%.
See instructional hours
- On Today, click the Attendance number to open the semester's attendance page.
- Click Instructional hours per student →.
- Choose the Term and the From and To dates. Click Download CSV to keep a copy.
What happens next
- The attendance rate counts present out of present and absent. Excused days don't count.
- ID cards show name, grade, term and an ID number that never changes. Medical notes never print.
- Hours only count classes where attendance was taken. A class with no attendance in your dates is listed so you can fix it.
- To email families when a child is marked absent or excused, turn on Attendance emails in Settings → Program profile. It is off by default.
Common problems
- "You can't take attendance for a future date."? Pick today or an earlier date inside the semester.
- Need to fix a mark? Open the date again, change the mark, and save.
- Took attendance on the wrong day? Open that date and click Clear this day, then Clear marks. The day goes back to not taken, and its notes are removed.
- Hours page says you need a higher plan? Instructional hours is part of Thrive.
