Post, grade and return assignments

This article helps you post an assignment, grade what families turn in, and return grades when you are ready.

Plan: Grow and Thrive.

Before you start

  • Your director must turn on Assignments & grades. If your class page has no Assignments tab, it is off.

Post an assignment

  1. Open your class and click the Assignments tab, then New assignment.
  2. Add a Title. Optionally add Instructions (optional), a link (Google Form, Classroom, Khan Academy, a video), Due (optional), Points (optional) and Families see it on (optional) to release it on a later date.
  3. Click Publish, or Save as draft to finish later. A draft stays with you and the class's teachers.

Each assignment shows Draft, Published or Scheduled.

Grade the work

  1. Open the assignment. Each student shows a status such as Turned in, Late or Not turned in.
  2. Click Open review (or Grade next to one student).
  3. Filter with Needs grading, All students, Late, Missing or Held (not returned).
  4. Type the points (or EX for excused) and any feedback.
  5. Click Save and next. The grade is held: Saved. It stays hidden from the family until you return it.

Return grades

  • To return one now, click Return now.
  • To return every held grade at once, click Return all graded and confirm.

What happens next

When you return a grade, the family sees the score and your feedback, the assignment shows Returned, and each family gets one email. Your Today shows Work to grade and reminds you about grades that families can't see yet. Assignments to grade in the menu lists work waiting across all your classes.

Common problems

  • A family can't see a grade? It is still held. Return it.
  • Points rejected? Type a number like 8 or 9.5, EX for excused, or leave it empty.
  • Work came in on paper? Grade it the same way in review.
  • Want category weights (like Homework 40, Tests 60)? Set them in the class's Grades tab.
  • Message families and share class materials
