What you can see about children, and why

This article helps you understand which details you see about the children in your classes, and who decides.

Before you start

  • You see only children enrolled in the classes you teach. Open them from Students or your class's Roster tab.

What you see

  • Basics: the child's name, grade, age and the classes you teach them in.
  • Health & safety: Allergies, Medical conditions, Medications, Dietary needs, Emergency contact and Authorized pickup, but only the ones the family chose to share. Families share all six unless they turn one off.
  • Tags at the top: Allergy and Medical when shared, and No photos when the family said no to photos.
  • Parent: the parent's name and a way to message the family, always. Your director decides whether you also see the parent's email (on by default) and phone (off by default).
  • The child's Grades and Attendance in your classes.

Who decides

  • Each family decides, field by field, which health, emergency and pickup details their children's teachers see. Your director cannot change that choice for them.
  • Your director decides parent email and phone for all teachers, in their settings.
  • Your director sees everything, whatever the family chose.

What happens next

On days you teach, Today shows Health notes for today for the children in that day's classes, so you can prepare. On the roster, children with shared health notes are marked Health.

Common problems

  • The page says The family hasn't shared health, pickup or emergency details with teachers.? The family turned sharing off, or left the fields empty. If you need something for safety, ask your director.
  • Authorized pickup is one note the family types in. If a name isn't there, check with your director before releasing a child.
  • You can't see the family directory? Teachers don't use it. Message families from Messages instead.
  • Student not found? You can open only children in the classes you teach.
  • Take attendance
  • Get started as a teacher
  • Message families and share class materials
