Fix a failed or declined payment

This article helps you pay again when a card is declined or a bank payment doesn't go through.

Before you start

  • You must be the main parent. A second parent can see the invoice but cannot pay it.
  • Look for the status on the invoice in Payments: Charge failed (a charge was declined, or a bank payment failed while clearing) or Payment returned (a payment that already went through was sent back, for example by your bank).

Steps

  1. Go to Payments. Today also shows the problem at the top with a Pay now button.
  2. On the invoice, click Pay now.
  3. Choose Pay with Bank Account or Pay with Card. If a card was declined, try a different card or pay by bank.
  4. Finish on the Stripe payment page.
  5. If you use autopay, click Update payment method on the Autopay card so the next charge works.

What happens next

  • A card payment clears right away and the invoice shows Paid.
  • A bank payment shows Clearing. Bank payments take 3 to 5 business days to clear.
  • Autopay does not try a failed invoice again on its own. Your balance stays due until you pay it.
  • You still pay exactly the invoice total. No fees are added.

Common problems

  • A bank payment failed after it showed Clearing? That can happen, because a bank can turn a payment down while it clears. Pay again, and check your account number and balance first.
  • The email gave a reason, like a declined card? Fix that with your bank or card company, or use another method.
  • Stuck on Waiting on your bank verification? Click Complete verification and enter the code from the small deposit, or choose Pay by card instead or Use a different bank instead. The pending bank payment is cancelled first, so you are never charged twice.
  • No Pay now button? Your co-op collects payments outside the app. Pay them directly as the invoice describes.
  • Think the charge went through anyway? Check your bank, then message your director before paying again.
  • Pay an invoice by bank or card
  • Turn on autopay
  • Read your invoice: monthly tuition, discounts and credits
