Messages and announcements

This article helps you read announcements, reply in conversations and message people in your co-op.

Before you start

  • Open Messages or Announcements in the menu (under Co-op). On a phone, Messages is a bottom tab.

Read your messages

  1. In Messages, conversations are grouped into Favorites, Announcements, Everyone, Class discussions, Groups, Direct messages and Earlier terms (classes from past semesters).
  2. Click Unread to see only what's new, or type in Search messages.
  3. Click the star on a conversation to add it to Favorites.

Reply or start a message

  1. Open a conversation, write in Type a message… and send.
  2. To add a photo or file, click Attach a file. Files can be up to 25 MB: photos, PDFs, Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, text, CSV or ZIP.
  3. To message one person, click New message, search by name and pick them.
  4. To take back something you sent, click the trash icon on it, then Remove. Everyone in the conversation sees that a message was removed.

Announcements

Only directors and teachers post announcements. You read them in Announcements and on Today. Your class's announcements also show on the class page. Your director or teacher can also email an announcement to families.

What happens next

We email you when a teacher or the director messages you, and when a new announcement is emailed to families. To choose which of these emails you get, go to Settings → Email notifications. To quiet a busy group or class conversation, open it and click Mute. Muted conversations don't count toward your unread number. Direct messages can't be muted.

Common problems

  • Can't post in Announcements? Only directors and teachers can post there. Reply in a class discussion or send a direct message.
  • Your file won't attach? It is over 25 MB or not an allowed type. Try a smaller file or a PDF.
  • Can't send anything? A second parent can read class and co-op-wide conversations (not the main parent's direct messages) but only the main parent can post.
  • A class conversation is missing? Its semester ended. Look under Earlier terms.
  • Calendar, events and volunteering
  • Your account: contact info, emails and deleting your account
  • Classes, assignments and grades
