Report cards

This article shows you how to set report card periods, write comments, send cards to families, and send them automatically.
Plan: Grow and Thrive.
Before you start
- Assignments & grades is on in Settings → Tools. If it is off, Report cards is not in your menu.
- The semester (or session) has a start and end date.
Set periods (optional)
- Go to Report cards in your menu and pick the term.
- Under Report card periods, pick a starting point: Quarters, Two halves (semesters), Trimesters or Whole term.
- Click Edit periods to change names, dates and each Release date. Use Add a period or Save period, then Done.
You can skip periods and send one card for the whole term.
Write and send a card
- On Report cards, open a student. Their Grades & report card tab opens.
- Click Write comments, add your note, and click Save comments. The card is now Draft, not sent.
- Click Send to family. The card now reads Sent to family.
Send all drafts at once
On Report cards, click Send all (it shows how many drafts) and confirm. Students without a draft aren't sent.
Send automatically
Under Sending, turn on Send report cards automatically on each period's release date. You must send one period's cards yourself first.
What happens next
- Each family gets an email and can see the card. A sent card is frozen as it was when you sent it.
- Grades and attendance fill in on their own. Teachers can add their class comment from the class Grades tab.
- With automatic sending on, drafts go out each morning once a period's release date arrives, and you get a short email. Periods released more than 7 days ago are not sent automatically.
- To print or save a sent card, choose Download PDF from the card's menu.
Common problems
- Warned about held grades? Grades you haven't returned won't be on the card. Return them first, or send anyway.
- Need to fix a sent card? Choose Reopen as draft. The family can't see it until you send it again.
- The automatic switch is grayed out? Send one period's cards by hand first.
