Connect Stripe and choose online, offline or both

This article helps you choose how families pay you and connect your bank account through Stripe.

Before you start

  • You are the program's owner, and you have the bank account you want payouts sent to. Co-directors can't open How families pay or connect Stripe.

Choose how you collect payments

  1. Go to Settings → How families pay.
  2. Under How do you collect payments? pick one:
    • Online: families pay by card or bank (ACH) through Stripe.
    • Offline: families pay you directly (cash, check, Venmo).
    • Both: families can pay online or hand you payment.
  3. For Offline or Both, fill in Payment instructions for families (for example, who to make checks out to). Families see it on their invoice.
  4. Click Save Payment Settings → at the bottom of the page.

Connect Stripe

  1. On the same page, under Accept Payments from Families, click Set Up Payments.
  2. Read Before you continue, then click Continue to Stripe →.
  3. Finish Stripe's steps. Stripe asks for your details and the bank account for payouts.
  4. You come back to LearningSense and see Stripe account connected successfully ✓. The page now shows Payment Account with Verified ✓.

What happens next

Families can pay invoices online. They pay exactly the invoice total (see Fees and payment timing for what comes out of your payout). Bank payments take 3 to 5 business days to clear; card payments clear right away. After a payment clears, Stripe sends it to your bank on its payout schedule. The first payout after connecting Stripe usually takes 7 to 14 days.

To see payouts or change your bank, click Manage Payouts ↗ here, or Payouts on Finances → Payments.

If you choose Offline, Stripe is optional, autopay is hidden from families, and you record payments yourself.

Common problems

  • It says Your Stripe account needs additional verification before payouts can resume.? Click Complete Verification → and finish what Stripe asks.
  • Can't click Open registration? Connect Stripe first, or choose Offline and save.
  • Your Stripe session expired? Click Set Up Payments again.
  • Fees and payment timing
  • Invoices: send one, remind families, record cash or check
  • Payouts, exports and finance reports
